I hope this message finds you well and sheltering in place. It’s been a very long time since our last major event, our Jewish Life Institute, in mid- February, hasn’t it? The world has changed dramatically since then.

We have had to place all of our public events on hold. It was going to be a wonderfully busy and celebratory spring! We will reschedule as many as we can, once we get the “all clear.” We plan to recognize our fabulous honorees and volunteers and celebrate with you. Will you join us when we can finally get together? These events will be so much more meaningful.

We have had to close our Thrift Shop, which is a major source of funding for our section, offering fabulous finds for everyone. We are continuing to support our staff, as part of our NCJW family. The Shop is just awaiting the word to open again. I hope you have spent some of your time in your own closets, trying on your spring clothes, and purging what you don’t want. I know I have. Save everything you can’t use for our Shop! But please keep your donations at home until the NCJW Thrift Shop reopens. When our workers return, they will be happy to share your treasures with others, and help you find new ones!

Our Community Service work is on hold, except for the Five Towns Early Learning Center. Volunteers and staff are still working there, watching the children of essential workers. Other activities are closed to protect all of us. We must abide by the rules of social distancing. We all miss being out there, helping to make a difference in the lives of women, children and families. It is NCJW’s mission! We still plan to hold our amazing Back 2 School Store in late July. Now, more than ever, the children will need our love, guidance, and supplies.

Our officers and Section Administrator have been busy transitioning to total communication by phone, email, and Zoom. We are working to keep NCJW Peninsula Section viable and active into the future. We still plan to offer you exciting presentations, fabulous fun events, and wonderful, meaningful activities as soon as we can.

If you are having any problems, you can call the New York State Emotional Support Line, at 1-844-863-9314, for professional help.

If you are looking for something to do, go to the NCJW.org website. You can read about our national activities. You will find links to petitions you can sign or letters you can write to protect all of our rights. Get involved! The Washington staff is active, engaged in the legislative outcomes we desperately need and your participation is essential.

Peninsula Section’s work will continue, just as it has for 84 years, through the Depression, wars, 9-11, and other tragedies. We need you! We are all in this together and will come out stronger when this is over. Please stay in touch!

Wishing you love and health,

Myra Garber
